About this Chapter

In this chapter, we see Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah, forming an alliance with Ahab, the king of Israel. Ahab proposes a joint military campaign against Ramoth Gilead, a city that belonged to Israel but was currently under the control of the Syrians. Jehoshaphat agrees to go into battle with Ahab, but before they proceed, he suggests seeking the counsel of the Lord. Ahab gathers his prophets, who all prophesy success in the battle, but Jehoshaphat wants to hear from a prophet of the Lord. Ahab reluctantly brings Micaiah, a prophet of the Lord, who prophesies that the battle will end in disaster and that Ahab will be killed. Ahab is displeased with this prophecy and has Micaiah imprisoned. Despite the warning, Jehoshaphat still goes into battle with Ahab. However, he disguises himself, while Ahab goes into battle wearing his royal robes. In the midst of the battle, a random arrow strikes Ahab, mortally wounding him. He dies that evening, just as Micaiah had prophesied.
