About this Chapter

Jehoram, the son of Jehoshaphat, became king of Judah after his father's death. He was thirty-two years old when he became king and he reigned in Jerusalem for eight years. However, he did evil in the eyes of the Lord. He married a daughter of Ahab, the wicked king of Israel, and followed the ways of the kings of Israel, leading the people of Judah astray. Because of Jehoram's wickedness, the Lord brought disaster upon Judah. Edom rebelled against Judah's rule, and Jehoram was unable to regain control. In addition, the Philistines and Arabs raided Judah and took away all the treasures from the king's palace, as well as his sons and wives, except for his youngest son, Jehoahaz. Jehoram's reign ended in tragedy. He suffered from a painful disease of the bowels, which eventually led to his death. The people of Judah did not mourn his passing, and he was not buried in the tombs of the kings. Instead, he was buried in the City of David, but not in the royal tombs.
