2 Chronicles 24:4
Some time later Joash decided to restore the temple of the LORD.
Joash became king of Judah at the age of seven and reigned for forty years. He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and sought the guidance of the priest Jehoiada. Under Jehoiada's instruction, Joash repaired the temple of the Lord that had fallen into disrepair. Joash commanded the Levites to collect money from the people in order to restore the temple. However, after Jehoiada's death, the officials of Judah turned away from the Lord and began to worship idols. They abandoned the temple of the Lord and allowed it to fall into ruin. God sent prophets to warn the people, but they did not listen. Then the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah, the son of Jehoiada the priest, and he rebuked the people for their disobedience. However, the people conspired against Zechariah and stoned him to death in the courtyard of the Lord's temple.
