He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, but not wholeheartedly.

About this Chapter

Amaziah became king of Judah at the age of twenty-five and reigned for twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, but not wholeheartedly. Amaziah assembled an army of three hundred thousand men from Judah and hired another hundred thousand men from Israel. However, a man of God came to him and warned him not to let the Israelite troops go with him to battle because God was not with Israel. Amaziah listened to the man of God and dismissed the Israelite troops, but he had already paid them a hundred talents of silver. Amaziah went to war against the Edomites and won a great victory. He captured ten thousand Edomite men alive, brought them to the top of a cliff, and threw them down, causing their deaths. However, Amaziah did not bring the idols of the Edomites back to Judah, but worshipped them instead.
