2 Chronicles 26:16
But after Uzziah became powerful, his pride led to his downfall. He was unfaithful to the LORD his God, and entered the temple of the LORD to burn incense on the altar of incense.

About this Chapter

Uzziah became king of Judah at the age of sixteen and reigned for fifty-two years. He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and sought God during the early years of his reign. As a result, God gave him success in various areas such as military conquests, agricultural productivity, and building projects. However, Uzziah's downfall came when he became proud and tried to enter the temple to burn incense, a task reserved for the priests alone. The high priest Azariah and eighty other courageous priests confronted Uzziah and warned him not to act arrogantly. But Uzziah became angry and insisted on proceeding with his plan. As a consequence of his disobedience, God struck him with leprosy on his forehead, and he was forced to live in isolation until his death. Uzziah's story serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of pride and the importance of humility before God. It reminds us that even the most successful and righteous individuals can fall when they allow pride to take hold of their hearts.
