Easy Bible・2 Chronicles 28
2 Chronicles 28:1
Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. Unlike David his father, he did not do what was right in the eyes of the LORD.
In this chapter, we learn about Ahaz, who became king of Judah at the age of 20. Unlike his father, Ahaz did not do what was right in the eyes of the Lord. He walked in the ways of the kings of Israel and even made idols for worship. As a result, God allowed the king of Aram to defeat Ahaz and take many of his people captive. Ahaz's disobedience brought great suffering upon the people of Judah. Despite facing the consequences of his actions, Ahaz did not turn to the Lord for help. Instead, he sought assistance from the king of Assyria, offering him treasures from the temple of the Lord. However, this alliance did not bring him the victory he desired. The king of Assyria attacked Judah but did not conquer it completely. This chapter serves as a reminder of the importance of obedience to God's commands. Ahaz's idolatry and disobedience led to his downfall and the suffering of his people. It is a warning for us to remain faithful to God and not to turn to idols or seek help from worldly powers. God desires our obedience and trust, and He is the only one who can truly deliver us from our troubles.
