2 Chronicles 33:1
Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-five years.
In this chapter, we learn about the reign of Manasseh, who became king of Judah at the age of twelve and ruled for fifty-five years. Manasseh did evil in the eyes of the Lord, following the detestable practices of the nations that the Lord had driven out before the Israelites. He rebuilt the high places that his father Hezekiah had demolished, erected altars for Baal and Asherah, and worshiped all the starry hosts. He even built altars in the temple of the Lord, where the Lord had said, 'My Name will remain in Jerusalem forever.' Because of Manasseh's wickedness, the Lord brought the Assyrian army against Judah, and Manasseh was captured and taken to Babylon as a prisoner. In his distress, Manasseh humbled himself before the Lord and prayed for forgiveness. God heard his plea and restored him to his kingdom in Jerusalem. Manasseh then removed the foreign gods and idols from the temple and commanded the people to serve the Lord.
