Ezra 3:11
With praise and thanksgiving they sang to the LORD: "He is good; his love to Israel endures forever." And all the people gave a great shout of praise to the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid.

About this Chapter

In the seventh month, the Israelites gathered as one in Jerusalem. They built the altar on its foundation and sacrificed burnt offerings on it to the Lord. Despite their fear of the surrounding peoples, they began to celebrate the Festival of Tabernacles with joy. The people of Israel were determined to rebuild the temple of the Lord, so they appointed Levites twenty years old and older to supervise the work. When the foundation of the temple was laid, the priests in their vestments and the Levites in their positions praised the Lord with cymbals, trumpets, and singing, giving thanks to the Lord. The older priests and Levites who had seen the first temple wept aloud when they saw the foundation of this temple being laid, while many others shouted for joy. The sound of the shouts and the weeping could be heard far away, but the people could not distinguish the sound of the joyful shouting from the sound of the people's weeping, because the sound was so loud and the people were filled with both joy and sorrow.
