Ezra 5:1
Now Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the prophet, a descendant of Iddo, prophesied to the Jews in Judah and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel, who was over them.

About this Chapter

In the second year of King Darius, the prophet Haggai and Zechariah son of Iddo prophesied to the Jews in Judah and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel. Then Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and Joshua son of Jozadak set to work to rebuild the house of God in Jerusalem. At that time the prophets Haggai and Zechariah son of Iddo prophesied to the Jews in Judah and Jerusalem. They encouraged them to continue rebuilding the temple, assuring them that God was with them and would bless their efforts. When the enemies of the Jews learned that they were rebuilding the temple, they asked King Darius to search the archives and see if Cyrus had issued a decree to rebuild the temple. After searching the archives, a scroll was found in the citadel of Ecbatana in the province of Media. The scroll contained a decree from Cyrus, allowing the Jews to rebuild the temple and providing them with the necessary resources. King Darius confirmed this decree and ordered the enemies of the Jews to support the rebuilding of the temple. The rebuilding of the temple resumed with the support of King Darius and the decree of Cyrus. The Jews continued to face opposition and challenges, but they persevered in their work. They were determined to rebuild the house of God and restore worship in Jerusalem, even in the face of opposition.
