Nehemiah 13:31
I also made provision for contributions of wood at designated times, and for the firstfruits. Remember me with favor, O my God.
In this chapter, Nehemiah returns to Jerusalem after being away for some time, and he discovers that the people have once again fallen into disobedience. He finds out that the people have allowed foreigners to enter the temple, they have neglected the Levites, and they have not kept the Sabbath holy. Nehemiah takes immediate action to correct these wrongs. He drives out the foreigner who was given a room in the temple, he appoints trustworthy individuals to oversee the contributions to the Levites, and he commands the people to observe the Sabbath. Nehemiah's reforms show us the importance of remaining faithful to God's commands and the need for constant vigilance in guarding against sin. It is a reminder that even after experiencing God's faithfulness and blessings, we can still easily fall back into old patterns of disobedience. Nehemiah's dedication to restoring the people's obedience serves as an example for us to always strive for righteousness and to stand against anything that goes against God's word.
