Esther 2:17
Now the king was attracted to Esther more than to any of the other women, and she won his favor and approval more than any of the other virgins. So he set a royal crown on her head and made her queen instead of Vashti.
In this chapter, Esther, a young Jewish woman, is taken to the palace to be part of King Xerxes' harem. She finds favor with the eunuch in charge and is given special treatment. When it is her turn to go to the king, he is pleased with her and makes her his queen. Esther's Jewish identity is kept secret at the advice of her cousin Mordecai. Meanwhile, Mordecai uncovers a plot to assassinate the king and reports it to Esther, who informs the king in Mordecai's name. The plot is investigated and the conspirators are executed. The chapter ends with the king's love for Esther and a great banquet that he throws in her honor. Esther's position as queen brings her favor and influence in the palace.
