Esther 6:1
That night the king could not sleep; so he ordered the book of the chronicles, the record of his reign, to be brought in and read to him.
In this chapter, Mordecai is honored by the king for his previous act of saving the king's life. The chapter begins with the king being unable to sleep, so he asks for the book of the chronicles to be read to him. It is then revealed that Mordecai had previously uncovered a plot to assassinate the king, which had been recorded in the chronicles. As a result, the king decides to honor Mordecai and asks his advisor, Haman, how he should be honored. Unaware that Haman is planning to have Mordecai hanged, Haman suggests a grand procession of honor for Mordecai, thinking it would be for himself. The king agrees and instructs Haman to carry out the procession for Mordecai.
