Psalms 1:1
Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.

About this Chapter

Psalms 1 introduces us to the contrast between the way of the righteous and the way of the wicked. The chapter begins with a description of the blessedness of those who do not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers. The righteous are compared to a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. In contrast, the wicked are like chaff that the wind blows away. The chapter concludes with a warning that the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. The Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.
