Psalms 104:1
Praise the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty.
In Psalm 104, the psalmist praises God for His creation and provision. The psalm begins by acknowledging God as the great and majestic creator, who stretches out the heavens like a tent and lays the beams of His upper chambers on the waters. He uses the clouds as His chariot and rides on the wings of the wind. The psalmist marvels at God's wisdom and power in creating and sustaining the earth. The psalmist continues to describe how God has established the earth on its foundations, never to be moved. He covers the earth with the deep waters like a garment, and the waters stood above the mountains. However, at God's rebuke, the waters fled and the mountains rose, forming valleys and flowing rivers. God has set boundaries for the waters, so they will never cover the earth again. The psalmist then shifts his focus to God's provision for His creation. He describes how God provides water for the animals and plants, causing the grass to grow for the cattle and plants for people to cultivate. God provides food for the birds of the sky and satisfies the hunger of all living creatures. The psalmist acknowledges that all of creation depends on God's provision, and they are satisfied when He gives them food in due season.
