Psalms 106:1
Praise the LORD. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.
This chapter focuses on the faithfulness of God and the unfaithfulness of the Israelites. It begins with a call to praise the Lord and give thanks for His goodness and steadfast love. The psalmist acknowledges that no one can fully declare all of God's praises and wonders. The psalm then recounts the history of Israel, highlighting their continuous rebellion against God despite His faithfulness. The psalmist mentions several instances when the Israelites provoked God with their disobedience and rebellion. They forgot His works, despised His counsel, and grumbled in the wilderness. They made a golden calf at Mount Sinai and worshiped idols. They tested God's patience with their constant complaining and lack of trust. Despite the Israelites' unfaithfulness, God remained faithful to His covenant with them. He heard their cry in times of distress and showed them mercy. He remembered His promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and He spared the Israelites from destruction. The psalm ends with a plea for God's salvation and a call for His people to praise Him forever.
