Psalms 107:1
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.

About this Chapter

This chapter of Psalms is a reminder of God's faithfulness to his people. It begins with a call to give thanks to the Lord, for he is good and his love endures forever. The psalmist then recounts various situations in which people found themselves in distress, and how God delivered them when they cried out to him. The first group of people mentioned are those who were lost in the desert, hungry and thirsty. They cried out to the Lord, and he led them to a city where they could settle and be fruitful. The psalmist emphasizes that those who are wise will take note of God's love and give thanks for his unfailing love. The psalmist goes on to describe other situations in which people faced trouble, such as being imprisoned, suffering because of their own foolishness, or being caught in a storm at sea. In each case, when they cried out to the Lord, he heard their cries and rescued them. The psalmist concludes by saying that those who are wise will take these things to heart and give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind.
