Psalms 112:1
Praise the LORD. Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who finds great delight in his commands.
This psalm describes the blessedness of those who fear the Lord and delight in his commandments. They will be blessed with wealth, prosperity, and righteousness. Their descendants will be mighty in the land, and they will be remembered forever. They have no fear of bad news and their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord. They are generous and lend freely, and their righteousness endures forever. They will never be shaken and will be honored in the end. The psalm contrasts the fate of the righteous with the wicked. The wicked will see the downfall of the righteous and be consumed with jealousy. They will gnash their teeth in anger and their hopes will come to nothing. The wicked will perish, and their desires will be in vain. The psalm ends with a promise that the righteous will be exalted and their names will be remembered forever. They will have no fear in the face of adversity and their righteousness will endure. The wicked, on the other hand, will fade away and be forgotten. The psalm concludes with a call to praise the Lord.
