Psalms 126:5
Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy.
This psalm is a song of ascent, sung by the Israelites as they returned from exile in Babylon. It begins with a remembrance of how God restored their fortunes and brought them back to their land. The people were filled with joy and laughter, and the nations around them recognized that God had done great things for them. The psalmist then prays for God to restore their fortunes once again. They acknowledge that while they may sow in tears, they will reap with joy. They trust in God's faithfulness and believe that He will bring about a bountiful harvest. The psalm ends with a declaration of confidence in God's goodness. The people affirm that those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them. They are assured that God will bring about a time of restoration and abundance.
