Psalms 135:1
Praise the LORD. Praise the name of the LORD; praise him, you servants of the LORD,
Psalm 135 is a song of praise to the Lord, acknowledging His greatness and goodness. The psalmist encourages everyone to praise the Lord, for He is good and His love endures forever. The psalmist calls upon the people to praise the Lord's name and to sing praises to Him. The psalmist then highlights the Lord's sovereignty and power, stating that the Lord does whatever pleases Him in heaven and on earth. He controls the weather, brings forth lightning and rain, and strikes down the firstborn of Egypt during the time of the Exodus. The psalmist emphasizes that the Lord is in control of all things and has the power to deliver His people from their enemies. In the final section of the psalm, the psalmist contrasts the Lord with the idols of the nations. The idols are made by human hands and have no life or power. They cannot see, hear, or speak. Those who trust in idols will become like them, but those who trust in the Lord will be blessed. The psalm concludes with a call to the house of Israel and the house of Aaron to bless the Lord, acknowledging His greatness and goodness.
