Psalms 144:1
Praise be to the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle.

About this Chapter

This psalm is a prayer of David, acknowledging God as his strength, deliverer, and shield. David praises God for His lovingkindness and describes Him as the One who trains his hands for battle and his fingers for war. He acknowledges that God is his loving and compassionate Father, who is mindful of man's frailty. David asks God to come down from heaven and rescue him from his enemies, who are deceitful and speak lies. He asks God to make the heavens bow down and come down with darkness under His feet, symbolizing His power and authority over all creation. In the final part of the psalm, David expresses his desire for a blessed and prosperous nation. He prays for God's deliverance and protection, asking Him to bless the people with abundant harvests, healthy livestock, and peaceful prosperity. David concludes by praising God, acknowledging that He is the only one who can save and bless His people.
