Psalms 146:1
Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD, O my soul.
Psalm 146 begins with the exhortation to praise the Lord. It emphasizes that the Lord, who is our God, is worthy of our praise. The psalmist encourages us to praise the Lord with all our being, as long as we live. The psalmist then contrasts the limited power of human beings with the everlasting power of God. He reminds us not to put our trust in human leaders, who are mortal and cannot save us. Instead, we should put our trust in the Lord, who is faithful and can deliver us from our troubles. The psalmist goes on to describe some of the ways in which the Lord shows his faithfulness and care for his people. He is the one who created the heavens and the earth, the sea, and everything in them. He is the one who upholds the cause of the oppressed, gives food to the hungry, sets prisoners free, and gives sight to the blind. The Lord loves the righteous and watches over the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow.
