Psalms 147:1
Praise the LORD. How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise him!

About this Chapter

Psalm 147 is a song of praise to the Lord. It begins with an exhortation to praise the Lord and ends with a call for Jerusalem to praise the Lord. The psalmist acknowledges that the Lord is good and that it is pleasant to sing praises to his name. The psalmist then goes on to describe the Lord's care for his people. He gathers the outcasts of Israel, heals the brokenhearted, and binds up their wounds. He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. The Lord's understanding is limitless, and his power is great. The psalmist concludes by stating that the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love. He blesses Jerusalem and makes peace within her walls. He provides food for the animals and satisfies the hunger of the creatures. The psalmist ends by calling on Jerusalem to praise the Lord.
