About this Chapter

Psalm 148 is a call to all creation to praise the Lord. It begins by calling the heavens, including the angels and celestial bodies, to praise the Lord. The psalmist then moves on to call the earth, including the mountains, sea creatures, and weather, to praise the Lord. Finally, the psalmist calls on all people, from kings and rulers to young and old, to praise the Lord. The psalmist emphasizes that all creation, both heavenly and earthly, should praise the Lord because He alone is worthy of praise. The psalmist highlights the sovereignty and power of the Lord over all creation. The heavens and the earth were created by His command, and they continue to exist by His will. The psalmist also emphasizes that the Lord has established a lasting decree that cannot be broken. This decree includes the boundaries and laws that govern all creation. The psalmist further emphasizes the Lord's authority by stating that He has raised up a horn for His people, symbolizing strength and protection. The psalmist concludes by reiterating the call for all creation to praise the Lord. The psalmist acknowledges that the Lord's name alone is exalted and His splendor is above the earth and the heavens. The psalmist ends with the declaration that the Lord has raised up a banner for His faithful ones, symbolizing victory and deliverance. In response to the Lord's greatness and power, all creation is called to offer praise and worship to Him.
