Psalms 33:6
By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth.
In Psalm 33, the psalmist praises God for His creation and sovereignty over the earth. He declares that the word of the Lord is right and true, and all His works are done in faithfulness. The psalmist emphasizes the power of God's word, as He spoke the heavens into existence and gathered the waters of the sea. The psalmist encourages the people to fear the Lord and stand in awe of Him, for He is the one who formed the hearts of all mankind and understands all their deeds. The psalmist contrasts the nations and their futile plans with the Lord's purposes, stating that the counsel of the Lord stands forever. He reminds the people that the Lord frustrates the plans of the nations and brings to nothing the schemes of the peoples. Instead, the psalmist affirms that the Lord's plans and purposes will prevail, for His word is trustworthy and His promises are sure. The psalmist concludes by praising the Lord and expressing his hope and trust in Him. He declares that the Lord is the help and shield of His people, and they can rejoice in Him. The psalmist prays for God's unfailing love to be upon them, as they put their hope in Him.
