Psalms 40:1
I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry.
In this psalm, David expresses his trust in God's faithfulness and deliverance. He starts by praising God for rescuing him from the pit of destruction and setting his feet on a solid rock. David acknowledges that God has put a new song of praise in his mouth and that many will see and fear the Lord because of what God has done for him. David then declares his unwavering trust in God, saying that blessed is the one who makes the Lord their trust and does not turn to the proud or to false gods. He emphasizes that God's thoughts and plans for his people are too numerous to count, and that God's love and faithfulness will always preserve them. David concludes the psalm by acknowledging his own sinfulness and need for God's mercy. He asks God to deliver him from his troubles, to not withhold his mercy, and to preserve him. David ends with a plea for all who seek the Lord to rejoice and be glad in him, knowing that God is their help and deliverer.
