Psalms 74:12
But you, O God, are my king from of old; you bring salvation upon the earth.
In this psalm, the psalmist cries out to God in distress, recounting the destruction of the sanctuary and the oppression of God's people. The psalmist remembers God's past faithfulness in delivering Israel from Egypt and asks for God's intervention once again. The psalmist pleads for God to remember His covenant and to arise and defend His people against their enemies. The psalmist describes the destruction of the sanctuary, where the enemy has burned and profaned the place where God's name dwells. The psalmist expresses deep sorrow and anguish at the sight of the desolation and asks God how long the enemy will mock and insult Him. The psalmist calls on God to take action and bring an end to the enemy's oppression. The psalmist then remembers God's past deeds, how He divided the sea and crushed the heads of the sea monsters. The psalmist acknowledges that God is the one who established the boundaries of the earth and brings both day and night. The psalmist appeals to God's power and sovereignty, asking Him to remember His people and to deliver them from their enemies.
