Psalms 78:1
O my people, hear my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth.
This chapter of Psalms recounts the history of God's faithfulness to the people of Israel and their repeated forgetfulness and rebellion against Him. It emphasizes the importance of passing down God's commandments and works to future generations. The psalmist begins by calling the people to listen and learn from the lessons of their ancestors, who witnessed God's mighty deeds and experienced His provision in the wilderness. Despite God's miracles, the Israelites often rebelled against Him, testing His patience and angering Him with their lack of trust. The psalmist reminds the people of God's punishment upon the rebellious generation, who constantly doubted Him and provoked His wrath. He recounts the plagues in Egypt, the parting of the Red Sea, and the provision of manna in the wilderness as examples of God's faithfulness and deliverance. However, despite witnessing these miracles, the people still doubted God and turned away from Him.
