Hear us, O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock; you who sit enthroned between the cherubim, shine forth

About this Chapter

This psalm is a prayer for restoration, written by Asaph. It begins with a plea for God to listen and save His people, who are described as a vine that God brought out of Egypt and planted in the promised land. The psalmist laments the current state of the vine, which is being destroyed by enemies. He asks God to restore the vine and show His face, so that His people may be saved. The psalmist recalls how God had once protected and blessed the vine, but now it is burned and cut down by the enemies. He pleads for God's anger to be turned away and for His hand to be upon the man of His right hand, who is likely a reference to the king or leader of Israel. The psalmist asks God to revive His people, so that they may call on His name and be saved. The psalm ends with a final plea for God to look down from heaven and take care of His vine. The psalmist expresses hope that God will restore His people and promises to give Him thanks and praise. He asks God to let His face shine upon them, so that they may be saved.
