Psalms 84:10
Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
This psalm expresses the deep longing of the psalmist for the presence of God. The psalmist begins by describing how lovely and desirable God's dwelling place is. He expresses his yearning to be in the presence of God and his envy towards even the birds who make their nests near God's altar. The psalmist then reflects on the blessings that come from being in God's presence, including protection, favor, and strength. He ends the psalm by declaring that it is better to spend even one day in God's courts than a thousand elsewhere. The psalmist's longing for God's presence is a reminder to us of the importance of seeking a close relationship with God. Just as the psalmist yearned to be near God, we too should desire to be in God's presence and to experience His blessings. Being in God's presence brings us comfort, joy, and strength. It is a place of refuge and a source of peace. When we prioritize spending time with God, we open ourselves up to His guidance, protection, and provision. In our busy lives, it can be easy to neglect our relationship with God and to prioritize other things above Him. However, this psalm reminds us that nothing compares to being in God's presence. It is in His presence that we find true fulfillment and purpose. So let us cultivate a longing for God's presence and make spending time with Him a priority in our lives.
