Psalms 87:1
He has set his foundation on the holy mountain;
This psalm celebrates the glory of Zion, the city of God. It declares that the Lord loves Zion more than any other place and that great things are spoken of the city. The psalmist mentions various nations, including Rahab, Babylon, Philistia, Tyre, and Cush, and says that they all acknowledge Zion as their birthplace. The psalm concludes by saying that the Lord will write in the register of the peoples, 'This one was born in Zion.' The city of Zion holds a special place in the heart of God. It is a symbol of His presence and His chosen people. Throughout history, many nations and peoples have recognized the significance of Zion and have acknowledged it as the birthplace of their ancestors. This psalm reminds us of the importance of Zion and the special favor that God has for His people. As believers, we can take comfort in knowing that we are part of God's chosen people. Just as the nations acknowledged Zion as their birthplace, we can proudly acknowledge that we are born again in Christ and have become citizens of the heavenly Zion. Let us rejoice in the love and favor that God has shown us, and let us strive to live lives that bring glory to His name.
