Psalms 89:1
I will sing of the LORD's great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations.
This psalm is a reflection on God's covenant with David, where God promised to establish David's descendants on the throne forever. It starts with a declaration of God's steadfast love and faithfulness. The psalmist praises God for His wonders and emphasizes how God's faithfulness is established in the heavens. The psalmist also highlights how God is to be feared among the heavenly beings. The psalmist then recounts the covenant made with David, reminding God of His promise to establish David's throne forever. The psalmist acknowledges that God is the one who has chosen and anointed David as king. The psalmist expresses hope and trust in God's faithfulness, believing that God will not break His covenant. However, the psalm takes a turn in the later verses as the psalmist laments the current state of affairs. The psalmist questions God's faithfulness, as it seems that the covenant has been broken. The enemies have triumphed, and the throne of David is in ruins. The psalmist pleads with God to remember His covenant and to act on behalf of His anointed one.
