Psalms 94:1
O LORD, the God who avenges, O God who avenges, shine forth.

About this Chapter

In this psalm, the psalmist cries out to God for justice against the wicked who oppress the righteous. The psalmist asks God to rise up and judge the proud and arrogant, who boast in their evil deeds. The psalmist acknowledges that God is the ultimate judge and avenger, and he trusts in God's justice to prevail. The psalmist describes the wicked as those who crush God's people and afflict the widow and the foreigner. He points out that they say, 'The Lord does not see; the God of Jacob takes no notice.' However, the psalmist affirms that God does indeed see and take notice of their actions. He warns the wicked that their evil deeds will not go unpunished. The psalmist finds comfort in the fact that God is his fortress and refuge. He believes that God will repay the wicked according to their deeds. The psalmist ends with a declaration of trust in God's unfailing love and faithfulness, knowing that God will uphold justice and righteousness in the end.
