Proverbs 9:10
"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

About this Chapter

In Proverbs 9, Solomon continues his contrast between wisdom and folly. He starts by personifying wisdom as a woman who prepares a feast and invites people to come and eat. She calls out to the simple and those who lack judgment, offering them understanding and knowledge. On the other hand, folly is also personified as a woman who is loud, seductive, and knows nothing. She sits at the door of her house, inviting people to come and join her in her reckless ways. Solomon emphasizes the importance of choosing wisdom over folly. He declares that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Wisdom brings long life, honor, and prosperity, while folly leads to destruction and death. Solomon warns that those who ignore wisdom's invitation and choose folly will suffer the consequences of their choices. In this chapter, Solomon encourages his readers to seek wisdom and understanding. He reminds them that wisdom is readily available to those who are willing to listen and learn. By choosing wisdom, they can avoid the path of destruction and instead find the way of life.
