Easy Bible・Isaiah 3
Isaiah 3:8
Jerusalem staggers, Judah is falling; their words and deeds are against the LORD, defying his glorious presence.
In this chapter, Isaiah prophesies about the Lord's judgment on Jerusalem and Judah. He describes a time when the Lord will take away their leaders and officials, causing a state of chaos and confusion. The people will turn against each other, and there will be a shortage of food and clothing. The Lord will remove their pride and arrogance, humbling them before their enemies. Isaiah specifically addresses the women of Jerusalem, warning them of the consequences of their sinful ways. He describes how their beauty and luxury will be taken away, and they will be left desolate and mourning. Instead of pleasant fragrances, there will be a stench of decay. Instead of fine clothes, there will be sackcloth. Instead of beautiful hairstyles, there will be baldness. Isaiah emphasizes that this judgment is a result of the people's rebellion against the Lord. They have oppressed the poor and needy, and their actions have provoked the Lord to anger. However, Isaiah also offers hope for the future. He speaks of a day when the Lord will restore justice and righteousness to Jerusalem and Judah. He promises that the righteous will be blessed, while the wicked will face the consequences of their actions.
