Easy Bible・Isaiah 6
Isaiah 6:1
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple.
In Isaiah 6, Isaiah has a vision of God in the year that King Uzziah died. He sees God sitting on a throne, high and exalted, with the train of his robe filling the temple. Seraphim, angelic beings with six wings, are flying above God and calling out to one another, 'Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.' The sound of their voices causes the doorposts and thresholds to shake, and the temple is filled with smoke. Isaiah becomes aware of his own sinfulness in the presence of God and cries out, 'Woe to me! I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.' One of the seraphim takes a live coal from the altar with a pair of tongs and touches Isaiah's lips with it, saying, 'See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.' After this, God asks, 'Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?' Isaiah responds, 'Here am I. Send me!' God then gives Isaiah a message to deliver to the people of Israel, a message of judgment and restoration. Isaiah willingly accepts the task and becomes one of the greatest prophets in the Bible.
