Isaiah 7:14
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

About this Chapter

In this chapter, Isaiah prophesies to King Ahaz of Judah, assuring him that the invasion of Jerusalem by the kings of Israel and Aram will not succeed. Isaiah tells Ahaz to ask for a sign from God, but Ahaz refuses. So, Isaiah gives a sign himself: 'Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.' This prophecy is a foreshadowing of the birth of Jesus Christ. Isaiah also warns Ahaz of the consequences of not trusting in God, saying that if Ahaz does not stand firm in his faith, he will not stand at all. Despite this warning, Ahaz still seeks help from the Assyrian king instead of relying on God. This chapter teaches us the importance of trusting in God and seeking His guidance in times of trouble. It reminds us that God is faithful to His promises and that He will provide a way out for those who trust in Him. It also points to the ultimate sign of God's faithfulness and salvation: the birth of Jesus, who is Immanuel, 'God with us.'
