Key Passages

Isaiah 31:1
Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, who rely on horses, who trust in the multitude of their chariots and in the great strength of their horsemen, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel, or seek help from the LORD.

About this Chapter

In this chapter, Isaiah pronounces a woe on those who rely on Egypt for help instead of seeking God's guidance. He warns them that Egypt's help is futile and will not save them from their enemies. Instead, they should trust in the Lord, who is powerful and will come to their aid. Isaiah describes how God will protect Jerusalem like a lion protecting its prey. He will defend the city and deliver it from its enemies. The Lord's presence and power will be evident, and the Assyrians will be defeated. Isaiah concludes by emphasizing the futility of relying on human strength and wisdom. He encourages the people to turn back to God and repent, for only He can provide true salvation and deliverance.
