About this Chapter

In Jeremiah 5, the prophet laments the unfaithfulness and corruption of the people of Judah. God commands Jeremiah to go through the streets of Jerusalem and seek out a man who acts justly and seeks truth, but he finds no one. The people have become hardened and refuse to repent, leading to their own destruction. Jeremiah describes the sins of the people, including adultery, deceit, and idolatry. He warns of the consequences that will come upon them because of their disobedience. God's judgment is portrayed as a devouring fire that will consume the land and its inhabitants. Despite the people's rebellion, God still offers them a chance to repent. He promises not to completely destroy them if they return to Him and swear by His name in truth, justice, and righteousness. However, the people remain stubborn and refuse to turn back to God.
