Easy Bible・Jeremiah 10
Jeremiah 10:10
But the LORD is the true God; he is the living God, the eternal King. When he is angry, the earth trembles; the nations cannot endure his wrath.
In Jeremiah 10, the prophet condemns the practice of idol worship and emphasizes the sovereignty and power of the true God. He describes how the idols made by human hands are nothing more than the work of craftsmen, with no power to speak or act. The key verse in this chapter is Jeremiah 10:10, which states, 'But the Lord is the true God; he is the living God, the eternal King. When he is angry, the earth trembles; the nations cannot endure his wrath.' Jeremiah warns the people not to be deceived by the false gods worshipped by the nations around them. He contrasts the idols, which are mere objects of wood and silver, with the Lord, who created the heavens and the earth. The prophet reminds the people that the Lord is the one who brings rain, gives life, and controls the course of history. He calls on them to fear and worship the true God, rather than placing their trust in idols. This chapter serves as a reminder to us today that we should not put our faith in anything or anyone other than the true God. It challenges us to examine our hearts and consider whether there are any idols or false gods that we have allowed to take the place of the Lord in our lives. Just as the people of Jeremiah's time were called to turn away from idolatry and worship the true God, we too are called to wholeheartedly follow and serve the Lord alone.
