Easy Bible・Jeremiah 14
Jeremiah 14:7
Although our sins testify against us, O LORD, do something for the sake of your name. For our backsliding is great; we have sinned against you.
In this chapter, Jeremiah pleads with God for mercy on behalf of the people of Judah who are suffering from a severe drought. He acknowledges the sins of the people and their need for repentance, and he asks God to remember His covenant with them and to intervene in their time of trouble. Jeremiah describes the desperate situation of the people, with the land dried up and the animals dying of thirst. He confesses the sins of the people, acknowledging that they have turned away from God and followed after idols. He pleads with God to not reject them completely and to remember His name and reputation. Despite Jeremiah's pleas, God responds to him and tells him not to pray for the people, as He will not listen to their cries. God declares that He will punish the people for their sins and send a sword, famine, and plague upon them. The false prophets who have deceived the people will also be punished. However, God promises that a remnant will be saved and return to their land.
