Jeremiah 20:7
O LORD, you deceived me, and I was deceived; you overpowered me and prevailed. I am ridiculed all day long; everyone mocks me.

About this Chapter

Jeremiah begins this chapter by expressing his frustration and anger towards God. He feels deceived and mocked by God, as he faithfully proclaims God's word but faces opposition and persecution from the people. Jeremiah even curses the day he was born and wishes he had never been born. But despite his anguish, Jeremiah cannot keep God's word to himself. The fire of God's message burns within him, and he cannot contain it. He tries to hold back, but it becomes like a burning fire shut up in his bones, and he is weary of holding it in. In the midst of his despair, Jeremiah remembers that God is with him like a mighty warrior, who will deliver him from his enemies. He acknowledges that God knows his heart and the plots against him. Jeremiah puts his trust in God and declares that the Lord will repay his enemies according to their deeds.
