Easy Bible・Jeremiah 23
Jeremiah 23:1
"Woe to the shepherds who are destroying and scattering the sheep of my pasture!" declares the LORD.
In Jeremiah 23, God rebukes the leaders of Israel, the shepherds, for their negligence and corruption. He promises to gather the remnant of his flock and raise up righteous shepherds who will care for them. God also declares that he will send a Branch, a righteous descendant of David, who will reign as king and execute justice and righteousness in the land. The chapter begins with a condemnation of the shepherds who have scattered and harmed God's people. These leaders were supposed to guide and protect the people, but instead, they have led them astray. God declares that he will hold them accountable for their actions. However, God promises to gather the remnant of his flock from all the countries where they have been scattered. He will bring them back to their own land and appoint shepherds who will care for them. These shepherds will be righteous and will lead the people in the ways of God. Furthermore, God declares that he will raise up a righteous Branch, a descendant of David, who will reign as king and execute justice and righteousness in the land. This Branch is none other than Jesus Christ, who came to fulfill this prophecy and establish God's kingdom on earth.
