Jeremiah 36:1
In the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from the LORD:

About this Chapter

Jeremiah receives a message from God to write down all the words God had spoken to him and to read them to the people at the temple. Baruch, Jeremiah's scribe, writes down all the words on a scroll. Jeremiah then instructs Baruch to read the scroll to the people on a fasting day at the temple. Baruch does as Jeremiah commands and reads the scroll to all the people who were present, including the officials. When the officials hear the words of the scroll, they become fearful and decide to report it to the king. The king summons Baruch to read the scroll to him, but after hearing a few columns, the king cuts them off and throws them into the fire. God instructs Jeremiah to rewrite the words on another scroll, and adds a message of judgment against King Jehoiakim.
