Easy Bible・Jeremiah 38
Jeremiah 38:1
Shephatiah son of Mattan, Gedaliah son of Pashhur, Jehucal son of Shelemiah, and Pashhur son of Malkijah heard what Jeremiah was telling all the people when he said,
In Jeremiah 38, Jeremiah is thrown into a cistern by some officials who were angry with him for prophesying about the destruction of Jerusalem. Ebed-Melek, an Ethiopian eunuch, pleads with King Zedekiah to rescue Jeremiah, and the king agrees. Ebed-Melek rescues Jeremiah from the cistern using old rags and ropes, and Jeremiah is then allowed to stay in the courtyard of the guard. This chapter highlights the opposition and persecution that Jeremiah faced for speaking God's word. Despite the danger and mistreatment, Jeremiah remained faithful to his calling as a prophet. It also shows the compassion of Ebed-Melek and the mercy of King Zedekiah, as they both recognized the injustice of Jeremiah's situation and took action to save him. As we read this chapter, we are reminded of the importance of standing firm in our faith and speaking the truth, even when it is unpopular or brings opposition. We can also find encouragement in knowing that God sees our struggles and will provide help and deliverance in His perfect timing.
