Jeremiah 42:6
Whether it is favorable or unfavorable, we will obey the LORD our God, to whom we are sending you, so that it will go well with us, for we will obey the LORD our God."

About this Chapter

In Jeremiah 42, the people of Judah, including the army officers and the rest of the people, came to Jeremiah and asked him to pray to the Lord their God for guidance. They promised to obey whatever the Lord said. After ten days, Jeremiah received a message from the Lord, telling the people not to be afraid of the king of Babylon, for God would be with them and save them. However, if they chose to stay in Judah, they would face destruction and death. God warned the people not to go to Egypt, for disaster would follow them there. He told them that if they disobeyed and went to Egypt, they would die by the sword, famine, and plague. God also said that only a few who escaped the sword would return to Judah from Egypt. The people, however, did not listen to God's warning and chose to go to Egypt, taking Jeremiah and Baruch with them. Jeremiah's prophecies in this chapter show us the importance of seeking God's guidance and obeying His commands. The people asked for God's direction, but they did not truly listen to His response. Instead, they followed their own desires and chose a path that led to destruction. It serves as a reminder for us to always seek God's will and trust in His wisdom, even when it may not align with our own plans or desires.
