Jeremiah 49:1
Concerning the Ammonites: This is what the LORD says: "Has Israel no sons? Has she no heirs? Why then has Molech taken possession of Gad? Why do his people live in its towns?
In this chapter, God speaks through the prophet Jeremiah to pronounce judgment on the Ammonites, a neighboring nation of Israel. The Ammonites were descendants of Lot and were known for their hostility towards Israel. God declares that He will bring disaster upon them and their capital city, Rabbah. Their land will become a desolate wasteland, and the Ammonites will be scattered among the nations. The reason for God's judgment is the Ammonites' pride and arrogance. They had rejoiced over the destruction of Israel and had taken possession of their land. However, God declares that He will restore the fortunes of Israel and bring judgment upon the Ammonites. The Ammonites will be made a byword among the nations, and their gods will be mocked and derided. Despite the severity of the judgment, God promises to restore the fortunes of the Ammonites in the latter days. He will bring them back from captivity and restore their land. This restoration is a testament to God's faithfulness and His desire to bring redemption and restoration to all nations, including those who have been judged.
