Lamentations 2:17
The LORD has done what he planned; he has fulfilled his word, which he decreed long ago. He has overthrown you without pity, he has let the enemy gloat over you, he has exalted the horn of your foes.
In this chapter, the prophet Jeremiah laments over the desolation of Jerusalem and the suffering of its people. The key verse, Lamentations 2:17, expresses the sorrow and anguish of the people as they witness the destruction of their city and the loss of their loved ones. Jerusalem, once a glorious city, has been brought low by God's judgment. The walls are broken down, the temple is destroyed, and the people are in mourning. The chapter describes the devastating effects of the Babylonian invasion and the siege of Jerusalem. The desolation of Jerusalem serves as a reminder of the consequences of disobedience and the severity of God's judgment. It is a call to repentance and a plea for God's mercy. Despite the despair and suffering, there is still hope for restoration and redemption.
