Easy Bible・Ezekiel 8
Ezekiel 8:3
He stretched out what looked like a hand and took me by the hair of my head. The Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven and in visions of God he took me to Jerusalem, to the entrance to the north gate of the inner court, where the idol that provokes to jealousy stood.
In this chapter, the prophet Ezekiel is taken in a vision to Jerusalem and brought to the entrance of the temple. There, he sees a group of elders worshiping idols and committing detestable practices. The Lord reveals to Ezekiel the abominations that are taking place in secret within the temple. Ezekiel sees a vision of a idolatrous image of jealousy, which provokes the Lord's anger. The Lord explains to Ezekiel that He will deal with them in anger and not spare them. The Lord shows Ezekiel further abominations, including women weeping for the god Tammuz and men worshiping the sun toward the east. Ezekiel is deeply grieved by what he sees and falls facedown before the Lord, crying out for justice. The Lord promises to respond with fury and not show pity, as the people have defiled His sanctuary and provoked His anger with their idolatry. The chapter ends with the Lord's judgment upon the people for their wickedness.
