Easy Bible・Ezekiel 24
Ezekiel 24:14
"'I the LORD have spoken. The time has come for me to act. I will not hold back; I will not have pity, nor will I relent. You will be judged according to your conduct and your actions, declares the Sovereign LORD.'"
In this chapter, God speaks to the prophet Ezekiel, telling him to record the date of the Babylonian siege against Jerusalem. God uses a parable of a boiling pot to symbolize the coming destruction of the city. Ezekiel's wife dies suddenly, but God tells him not to mourn openly, as a sign to the people that they should not mourn when the city is destroyed. The Lord explains that the death of Ezekiel's wife is a sign of the impending doom that will befall Jerusalem. God says that when this happens, the people will be in shock and will not have time to mourn properly. They will be consumed by grief, but they must not let it consume them. Instead, they should accept the judgment of God and continue to trust in Him. This chapter serves as a warning to the people of Jerusalem that their city will be destroyed by the Babylonians. It emphasizes the severity of their sin and the consequences they will face. Despite the tragedy that Ezekiel experiences, he remains obedient to God's command, showing the people that they too should submit to God's will, even in the face of great loss.
