Ezekiel 29:16
Egypt will no longer be a source of confidence for the people of Israel but will be a reminder of their sin in turning to her for help. Then they will know that I am the Sovereign LORD.'"

About this Chapter

In this chapter, God pronounces judgment on Egypt through the prophet Ezekiel. God declares that He will bring a sword against Egypt and its allies, causing devastation and making the land desolate. He will scatter the Egyptians among the nations and disperse them throughout the earth. This judgment is a result of Egypt's pride and arrogance, as they have acted as a 'staff of reed' to Israel, but failed to provide the support they promised. Egypt's punishment will serve as a warning to other nations, that they may know that God is the Lord. The land of Egypt will become a desolate wasteland for forty years, during which time the Egyptians will be scattered among the nations. However, after the forty years, God will gather the Egyptians back to their land, although it will be a lowly kingdom and will never again exalt itself above the nations. Through this judgment, God reveals His sovereignty and power over all nations. He will bring down the proud and exalt the humble. Egypt's downfall serves as a reminder that no nation or power can stand against the Lord. It is a call for us to humble ourselves before God and acknowledge His authority in our lives.
